Welcome to WYLA's home on the web!

WYLA provides the youth of Westborough instruction and training for improving and developing their capabilities through the participation in a lacrosse program conducted in an atmosphere of sportsmanship and fair play, free of any adult ambition or personal glory.  In furtherance of this educational objective, the principles of team play, self-discipline, respect, good sportsmanship, and scholarship are stressed through a developmental process of instruction, practice, and learning of the fundamentals of the game, while insuring the safety and well being of the children who participate.

WYLA Fundraising and Board Membership Need - PLEASE READ

Lacrosse Families,

As we approach Memorial Day and the few remaining lacrosse games, I thought I would take this opportunity to reach out to the WYLA lacrosse membership on two items.

First I would like to talk about this year’s fundraiser and its importance going forward.  As those families that have been with the program for a few years know, we have not had a fundraising effort as a league in years past.  This was a forward looking attempt at helping to mitigate costs that will continue to rise in the future.  We have already been informed by the Town that we will need to start paying for field time next year, I am certain the schools will follow suit eventually.  We have been lucky in Westborough to not have this expense until now, I know of many surrounding towns that pay for both practice and game field usage.  Couple the field costs with rising indoor costs and ref fees and the Board was looking to find other ways to get the necessary funds beyond continually raising registration costs.  We felt that the coupon books provided enough value that it did not require each player to spend many hours completing the task.

Second and most importantly, we have hit a critical stage on our Board membership.  We have had a solid core of volunteers recently and unfortunately due to work demands and also children aging out of the program we find ourselves needing new membership to continue.  We will have nearly every Board seat open next year and need to have the positions filled before commitments have to be made to MBYLL on teams.  I would ask everyone to please consider volunteering for a position on the Board because with more volunteers, no single workload is very big.  The Board meets once per month (except for the summer months) and the additional time required amounts to a few hours per month at its peak.

Without at least a few new volunteers I do not know if there will be enough help to go forward with a 2016 season.  Please consider this carefully and let me (or another Board member) know if you are interested in learning more, or volunteering.
